A man from West Champaran, Patna, has taken a Bhishma pratigya (austere vow) to remain unmarried out of his sheer love for nature so that he could devote his full time to planting more saplings and protecting the grown-up trees from the woodcutters.
The 40-year-old Gajendra Yadav, a resident of Pipra village in Bagaha block, said his family members put immense pressure on him to get married but that was not going to serve any purpose.
“I would have been just another person in the society enjoying the company of wife and children had I opted for marriage. I would not have given full attention to environment conservation,” Yadav says. “After getting up, I only serve the trees” he said, describing plants as his children.
His initiative has created massive awareness in the society about environment conservation.
